The overreaching goal of SEATRACK is to identify the year-round distribution of seabirds from colonies in the Arctic and boreal North Atlantic (north of 40° N), and how changes in environmental conditions and human activities throughout the annual cycle affect their demography and population trends.
Four interlinked research themes have been defined to address these objectives:
- Variation in migration and wintering strategies among individuals, populations and species.
- Linking migration and wintering strategies to seabird life-history and
population dynamics. - The use of tracking data in marine spatial planning and ecosystem-based
management. - Linking migration and wintering strategies to contaminant distribution and the spread of diseases.
