The harbor of Boulogne-sur-Mer, France (50°43’35.5 “N 1°35’47.1 “E) hosts a large urban breeding population (>1200 pairs) of black-legged kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) and is ideal for a study on migratory movements and wintering areas.
At Boulogne-sur-Mer, black-legged kittiwakes nest on various buildings, often at modest height (figure below), and are thus easily accessible and are the subject of a population survey led by the Centre d’Etudes Biologiques de Chizé (CEBC, O. Chastel) and the Groupe Ornithologique et Naturaliste du Nord – Pas-de-Calais (GON).
